The University of Caloocan City and Huaqiao University held a virtual year-end summary meeting on January 14, 2025, to mark the achievements of students in the English-Chinese Department. This important event was attended by prominent guests from both universities: Dean Ramona Prado, Prof. Rosalie D. Esteban. Prof. Joshua Jay Eden, and 1st to 4th-year students from the University of Caloocan City; Dean Hu Jiangang, Prof. Liu Shanshan, Prof. Rong Yong, and faculty members from Huaqiao University; Mr. Frank Hong and members from Filipino-Chamber of Commerce. This meeting reflected the department and universities’ commitment to cultivating bilingual talents and fostering cross-cultural understanding between the Philippines and China.
The event began with a comprehensive report focusing on the result of talent cultivation. The meeting proudly presented the results of the Chinese Proficiency Examination for the students, with an impressive 95% passing rate for HSK 4 and a 100% passing rate for both HSK 3 and 2. Furthermore, a video highlighting the students’ learning progress through activities, assignments, and projects was shown, thus emphasizing their dedication and passion for the language.
Following this, the students who displayed outstanding performance and language skills were recognized in the awarding of excellence part. Numerous awards were presented to recognize the students’ dedication to learning the Chinese language, including the Outstanding Award, Full Attendance Award, Outstanding Class Cadres Award, Listening and Speaking Talent Award, Reading and Writing Talent Award, and Excellent Volunteers Award. Several students also expressed gratitude for receiving the award through a heartfelt speech.
Before the meeting ended, Dean Ramona Prado of the College of Education at UCC expressed her satisfaction with the strong partnership between UCC and Huaqiao University, which has resulted in the success of the English-Chinese Department. Dean Hu Jiangang, dean of Preparatory Education College at Huaqiao University, also expressed his delight with the partnership and the students' achievements.
Overall, this year-end summary celebrated the English-Chinese Department’s accomplishments, while reinforcing the flourishing friendship between UCC and Huaqiao University. This ignited the students’ passion for learning the language, hence uplifting their spirits to embrace another year of growth and success.
