At 49 years old, Mr. Julian Avila, a longtime security guard at the University of Caloocan City, has proven that it's never too late to chase a dream.
For years, Julian has been a familiar face on campus quietly keeping the university safe but behind the calm and steady presence was a dream he had quietly carried with him: to earn a college degree.
A devoted father of four, Julian had placed his family first, setting aside his own ambitions to ensure his children's future. But dreams don't fade— they wait. And with courage, patience, and the right opportunity, they can still come true.
For years, Julian has been a familiar face on campus, quietly keeping the university safe but behind the calm and steady presence was a dream he had quietly carried with him: to earn a college degree.
Thanks to the City Government of Caloocan, in this initiative, Julian got that chance. The program allowed employees like him to pursue higher education while continuing their day jobs. He enrolled in the Bachelor of Public Administration - Evening Classes for Government Employees (BPA-ECGE). By day, he remained at his post. By night, he became a student-fighting sleep, but never losing sight of his goal.
Julian, who came to Manila from the province with big hopes and quiet determination, is now a graduate. His journey is not just about earning a diploma-it's about holding on to your dreams, no matter how long they've been put on hold.
He extends his heartfelt gratitude to the Board of Regents headed by its Chairman, Hon. Mayor Dale "Along" Malapitan, for making this life-changing opportunity possible.
He extends his heartfelt gratitude to the Board of Regents headed by its Chairman, Hon. Mayor Dale Gonzalo R. Malapitan, perseverance, and love that brought him to this moment. His story reminds us all: it's never too late, and you're never too old, to go after the life you've always wanted.
Congratulations, Mr. Julian Avila. Your UCC family couldn't be prouder.
